Why Dexters?

Knowing we wanted to keep our sheep flock, we wanted to be able to manage both animals on our 100 acre farm without any issues. This Dexter breed of cattle thrive on less acreage, making them the ideal cattle for smaller farms. These duel purpose cattle are one of the smallest bovine varieties however still standing at around 40 inches, and weigh between 700-900 pounds. The Dexter’s hardiness and gentle disposition makes them easy and enjoyable to manage. They thrive as both meat and dairy cattle, making a fine addition to any homestead or farm.

We began with a small registered herd and are continuing to expand and improve our herd. Our cattle are pastured on a rotational grazing system in the spring, summer, and early fall seasons, having access to new grass every 4-10 days depending on lot size and grass condition. Our calving season begins in the early spring and calves are weaned around 6 months of age. Young heifers are sold as prime breeding stock, males are often kept and sold as halves or wholes for processing.

We are thrilled to share more information and our experiences with these wonderful breed of cattle. Please reach out for breeding stock availability, questions, comments, or visits.
